What keeps you girls preoccupied?
Elle: "When I'm not on the mats, you'll often find me indulging in my love for art, especially drawing, and of course, enjoying some good food. I'm also pretty skilled at braiding hair, which comes in handy during downtime."
Yca: "I’m super stoked about being a full-time BJJ athlete. It’s not just a sport for me, it’s a lifestyle. I like to hit the gym as well; I want to be strong and always on top of my game. There are also other things I like aside from being physically active. I love to read books and write stories; they help calm me down. I also love, love, love, looove eating, I mean, who doesn’t? Lastly, I love to travel, I like meeting new people, experiencing and exploring new things. I welcome opportunities that bring me out of my comfort zone.

What are your biggest accomplishments and/or failures?
Elle: "My proudest achievements so far are winning the Abu Dhabi World Pro Youth Championship not once, but twice, in 2022 and 2023. Just two years into Jiu-jitsu, I've competed over 30 times, usually managing to bring home a medal making my country proud. One of the toughest parts of my journey has been managing my weight for competitions, and my love for food makes it hard to stay on track, but this is where my training comes in. I just have to have discipline and stay focused on my goal."
Yca: "My proudest moment was when I became a Grandslam Champion, and after that, Abu Dhabi World Pro Champion. I count all my wins no matter how big or small; like not getting submitted in a fight or escaping a submission, these are all achievements, and they're all a win to me. My biggest failure would be the acceptance of defeat before a match. I would overthink and underestimate myself. My next goal is to fight without any fear nor hesitation, which is why I’m training harder not just my body, but also my mind. I need to learn to fully trust in myself and in my skills."

What inspires and/or motivates you?
Elle: "I draw my inspiration from my family, my professors, and my amazing teammates and mentors. Their support pushes me to be better every single day."
.Yca: "Like my sister, it’s all about the people around us. Our coaches and training partners push us to be our absolute best on the mats. And then there’s our family and friends, always being the best cheering us on no matter what. Experiences are like fuel for the fire. Every win, every loss, helps me grow, and so I cherish them equally. I know I can’t do this forever, but I would if I could. There will be a point in my life where I’m going to have other priorities, but Jiu-jitsu will always have a special place in my heart. It’s the reason I found myself, my passion, and my dream."

How do you connect with your Higher self?
Elle: "For me, staying connected with my higher self means being kind, practicing mindfulness, learning from my mistakes, and always keeping a positive attitude no matter what life throws my way."
.Yca: "I stay connected through Jiu-jitsu. Lately, my sister and I have also been practicing yoga. I find myself feeling the best in these two things. BJJ has taught me to never give up, to keep learning, to be curious, and to explore. On the other hand, yoga has taught me how the breath controls the mind and to be calm during stressful situations. It helps to keep one grounded."

What other campaigns or projects would you want to collaborate with us that can contribute further to the community?
Elle: "Ultimately, I want to be able to do something that can inspire others from my generation to embrace Jiu-jitsu and see the incredible impact it can have on their lives. My motto? Trust the process. Whether it's dealing with pain, defeats, or victories, trusting in the journey is key to achieving your dreams."
Yca: "I’d like to give self-defense seminars for women in collaboration with the HGHRCLSS. Providing women with basic self-defense skills can empower them to feel more confident and safer. That’s my goal, I want women to feel safe, confident, and powerful!"

Yca: "Thank you, HGHRCLSS, for giving my sister and I the opportunity to share our passions and experiences. We are incredibly grateful for the chance to discuss Jiu-jitsu and all our other interests that has shaped who we are today. We are both excited about the future and all the opportunities it holds, and we can’t wait to continue pursuing our dreams! Let’s keep soaring high while staying grounded, OSS! 🤙🏼"
